Jonas David Joins as Research Director to Boost Emerging Markets Expertise

The Anthropocene Fixed Income Institute (AFII) today announces the appointment of Jonas David as Research Director, further strengthening the Institute’s coverage of fixed income investing in emerging markets and transition finance.

Based in London, Jonas will focus on AFII’s research and insights into the role of debt markets in the climate transition of both sovereigns and corporates, with a particular focus on emerging markets and developing economies. His appointment comes as AFII strives to build out a proof-of-concept for Contingent Resilience-Linked (CORL) bonds and similar sustainability-linked instruments that unlock public and private finance.

Jonas brings extensive experience in emerging markets and fixed income investing. Before joining AFII, he co-led a project on innovative sustainable finance at the Emerging Markets Investors Alliance (EMIA). He previously worked in the emerging markets fixed income team at Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) and covered macro, FX, and rates at UBS Global Wealth Management’s Chief Investment Office. Jonas holds a Master’s in Economics from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland and a Bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Muenster, Germany. He is also a CFA charterholder.

Justine Leigh-Bell, Executive Director of AFII, Anthropocene Fixed Income Institute, welcomed Jonas to the team: “Jonas’ deep expertise in emerging markets fixed income aligns perfectly with AFII’s mission to empower bond investors to accelerate the climate transition. His appointment is especially timely as we expand our work in blended finance and CORL bonds — which hold great promise as mechanisms for driving capital toward climate mitigation and adaptation goals.”

Jonas David added: “I am excited to join AFII at such a pivotal moment. The importance of debt markets in financing the climate transition, particularly in emerging markets, cannot be overstated. I look forward to contributing research and insights that help investors price climate risks and opportunities more effectively, ultimately steering capital toward a more sustainable and resilient future.”

Jonas will be speaking at Finance in Common Summit (FiCS) in South Africa from February 26-28, 2025, where he will discuss the evolving role of sustainable debt markets and innovative financing mechanisms to mobilise capital for the climate transition.
